Do you crave a big, warm hug in a mug? That’s what this mulled warm wine feels like.
It’s a treat for a cold night when you’re snug in your warm coat & the world seems icy. It’s why I love this warm wine. Ditch the fancy drinks & hot chocolates.
Curl up with a mug of this hot, tangy drink.
I found this recipe a few years back at a holiday party. I needed something fast & cosy to warm people up after a chilly time out.
You know how everyone’s hands are like ice & their faces red? You don’t want a hard drink recipe. This one’s easy & was a hit. It brought warmth & holiday cheer.
Mulled wine is so easy but feels lush. It’s like putting on comfy socks & a fav hoodie.
And the smell! The moment cinnamon & cloves get in the pot, the kitchen smells like Christmas. It’s cozy & tasty.
Keep these on hand for the Mulled warm wine:

Red Wine (good, but not too fancy)
Brandy (for extra cozy)
Honey or Sugar (I use honey)
Orange (fresh slices mix well with spice)
Cinnamon Sticks (key for flavor)
Cloves (full of flavor & health perks)
Star Anise (a nice, sweet touch)
Fresh Ginger (for a spicy kick)
Lemon Juice (to brighten it up)
Why these work:
Red Wine has stuff good for your heart.
Brandy brings depth & warmth. Honey’s not just sweet, it has health perks. Oranges bring vitamin C. Cinnamon is warming & helpful for health.
Cloves have health perks too. Star Anise adds a unique taste. Ginger helps your gut. Lemon juice freshens it.
How to make this Mulled warm wine (avoid a kitchen mess):
Go low & slow with heat. No boiling!
Pour the red wine into a pot on medium heat. No bubbles!
Add orange, cinnamon, cloves, star anise & ginger. Smells great soon!

Mix in honey or sugar to taste.
Let it sit on low heat for 15 20 minutes. Stir sometimes.

Add brandy at the end if using. Maybe a quarter cup.
Taste & correct. More sweet or bright? Fix as you like.

Serve right:

Pick mugs or glasses that can take the heat.
Dress it up with a cinnamon stick or orange slice. Looks count!
Serve warm, not too hot.
This is great for:
Holiday bashes (your mix will be a hit)
Quiet evenings at home
Chilly nights for book or movie time
Any time you want to wow with no big effort
Leftovers? Yes, You Can Save It
I know, you make more than you need. Here’s what to do with the leftovers:
Let it cool first. Don’t put hot wine in the fridge. That ruins the taste.
Store it in a tight lid jar or bottle. Keep it cold for up to 3 or 4 days.
When you want more, warm it slow on the stove. No boiling, recall!
Microwave is fine, but warm it in short rounds & stir so it heats well.
Pro tip: If it’s a bit dull, just add a bit of fresh orange juice or more cinnamon when you warm it up. Boom like new!
My Best Tips for Great Mulled Wine
Don’t heat too much! A low fire works best.
Don’t let it boil & lose the taste. Learn from me!
Taste as you make it. Mulled wine is easy to fix if it’s too hot, add more sweet. Too sweet? A bit of lemon sorts it.
Mix the spices. Try nutmeg, allspice, or even vanilla.
Make it yours. Use any red wine you like. Try different ones. Each works in its own way.
Don’t miss the extras. Things like orange bits and cinnamon aren’t just pretty they add taste.
Use fresh stuff. Fresh ginger & citrus are way better than dry spices and old juice.
